Mortality Amon’ Bees In Hawke’s Bay

HASTINGS, Nov. 1 (P.A.).- Mortality among bees has during the past few days been causing a reduction in the population of a number of apiaries on the Heretaunga Plains. There is a suspicion among at least some of the beekeepers that, the deal::'-.rn <•.■ •. by spray poisoning. There is, however, as yet no definite, proof of this. Specimens of dead bees have been sent to Wallaceville Animal Reesarch Station for examination, and until the result of that post-mortem is known it will not ho possible to say definitely whether or not. the cause is careless use of arsenical sprays by fruitgrowers. The present occasion is the first on which there has been any undue loss of bees since the introduction of the legislation several years ago.
