Sobby Locke Scores A 68 At Titirangi

AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— The famous South African professional golfer, A. D. Locke, was successful in the ninth match of his New Zealand tour, at Titirangi on Saturday, when he and P. G. F. Smith, former national amateur champion, defeated A. Murray, the former open and professional champion, and L. B. Johnston, a prominent local amateur, 1 by three up and one to play. In excellent conditions, marred only by a strong wind, Locke showed some of the best form of his tour and broke the course bogey by no fewer than 1 six strokes in scoring a 68. Murray, who showed excellent form in the second half, which he scored in 34, had a round of 70, and each of the amateurs scored 75. Locke afterwards praised Titirangi as the best course in the Dominion. He said it demanded higher degrees of accuracy on the drive than other courses in New Zealand, and if its greens were not of the quality of Shirley they were still of a high standard. Alex Murray Beats Bobby Locke At Hamilton HAMILTON, Last Night (P.A.).— Before a crowd of 1250 the Auckland professional, Alex Murray, defeated Bobby Locke, South Africa, one up in a match at. St. Andrews, Hamilton, today. It was a game without many incidents, the golf being interesting without brilliance. Murray carded a 70 against par 74, while Locke had a 71. Locke was one up at the turn after an outward journey of 36, two under par. Murray came home in 33 and Locke in 35. Murray was in more trouble than Locke, but made excellent recoveries. His short approaches were rather more accurate than Locke’s, whose famous putter was not functioning as well as usual.
