Captain Sir Henry Robert Gordon, master of the 26,000-ton Shaw Savill liner Dominion Monarch, at present in Wellington, will retire from the service after his next round trip.

Colonel James Murphy, Christchurch, was elected Dominion president at the annual Dominion Council meeting of the Disabled Servicemen’s League recently concluded in Wellington. Mr. A. R. Hislop, Wellington, was re-elected vice-president.

Senior supervisor of the telegraph branch, Wellington, Mr. B. H. Young, who has retired after 40 years’ service with the department, was farewelled by department?.! officers last night. Mr. Young joined the department in 1909. He visited China at the end of the last war as an officer of U.N.R.R.A.

Mr C. G. E. Harker, M.P., chairman of commutes of the House of Representatives, will relinquish his duties as acting Speaker on the return of the Speaker, Mr Oram, tomorrow. Mr A.S. Sutherland, M.P., who has been acting chairman of committes, will also relinquish the duties associated with that office. Before the House adjourned for the week-end appreciation was expressed of their services.
