PIPES OR POSTS? HUNTER VILLE, Last Night (OC). —During the discussion on the classification of the roads at a meeting of the Hunterville Federated Farmers, the Rangitikei County Council’s engineer. Mr. H. Murray Reid, explained that everywhere he could he was replacing the old culverts with larger concrete pipes, but. he said, we could not get. enough of them. “If the county made more culverts and less fencing posts it would help to overcome the shortage of pipes.” said Mr. B. Dryden. “If the county stopped making posts could more culverts bp made?” he asked. Mr. Reid: Yes. But if w« stopped making posts there would be a terrible row. Mr. Dryden: If vou don’t make the culverts there will be a terrible row, too. (Laughter). Mr. Reid: Yes. But. wp know the row that has come through not. making the culverts and we do not. know what sort of a row there might be if wn sfnn making the posts. “Better the devil you know than the you don’t know,” concluded Mr. Reid, amid more leughf.er.
