Scotland Yard Makes Sudden Swoop On Parliament Staffs
LONDON, Aug. 4—Scotland Yard officers made a surprise swoop on the House of Parliament today and carried out the first intensive security screening in London since the sabotage effort at Portsmouth and suspected sabotage at the House last week.
Hundreds of workmen engaged on the construction of the new chamber for the House ot Commons were screened.
Today’s surprise check and additional security measures which are now being enforced at the House indicate that damage to telephone and water clocks discovered there last week was probably the work of saboteurs.
