GREYHOUND BUSES DUE BEFORE JULY

Shortage of staff in factories where the buses are being assembled will cause some further delay to the arrival of Greyhound buses in Wanganui to take over the municipal transport of the city. An extension of time until the beginning of July in which to start the service was sought at a sitting yesterday of the No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr. C. L. Bishop, by the company responsible for the service, Greyhound Buses, Ltd. Making the application, Mr. R. S. Withers said the buses had been expected to be on hand last month. Now they were not expected for at least another month. The right to operate special buses to city sports grounds when required and an observation bus within the city limits was also sought by the company. Mr. Withers explained that several sports grounds in the city were not on regular bus routes. The company would serve these when required. Mr. Withers also submitted an amended timetable for the proposed services. He said the only differences were on Saturday mornings and Sunday nights. Because city theatres had ceased Saturday morning showings the service then was to be reduced. A small demand was also shown for Sunday night buses, so the service then would cease after the evening church services. All the company’s applications were granted by the licensing authority.
