TRAMS TO CEASE RUNNING BEYOND CALVER’S CORNER
Because of the deteriorated condition of the tracks and the increasing derailments on the Aramoho route, trams are to cease running beyond Calver’s Corner in the near future.
Till the new bus company begins operations, the Wanganui City Council will run buses between Calver’s Corner and Upper Aramoho, this decision having been reached at the monthly meeting last night after the council had considered a special report from the Transport Committee. The committee met in conjunction with the ordinary meeting, after which the council adopted the following recommendation: “That the engineer and manager (Mr. L. F. Row) be directed to make arrangements as soon as possible for the replacement of all tram services on the Aramoho route, beyond Cab ver’s Corner, with an omnibus service, and as far as possible to give notice by advertisement of any alterations in timetable and other features of the service that may be necessary from time to time.”
