TURAKINA NEWS INTER-CLUB TENNIS

TURAKINA, April 24 (OC).—Members of the Turakina club suffered their only defeat of the season on Saturday last, when they visited Fordell to play a match against that club. Fordell won 13 sets (109 games) to Turakina’s 11 sets (102 games). The local men must have had an off day, as they won only one set in the singles and lost all the doubles. Following are the results, Fordell players being mentioned first:— Ladies' singles: Miss Barns beat Miss N. Wilson, 6-1; Mrs Campbell lost to Miss J. Major, 2-6; Mrs Evans beat Mrs. Ralfe, 6-4; Miss Christie lost to Mrs Chapman, 0-6; Miss Martin lost to Miss .1. Major, 5-6; Mrs. Pennefather lost to Miss J. Flyger, 5-6. Fordell, 2 sets 21 games; Turakina. 4 sets 29 games. Ladies' doubles: Barns and Campe bell lost to Wilson and Major, 3-6; Evans and Christie beat Ralfe and Chapman. 6-4; Martin and Pennefather iost to Major and Flyger, 5-6. SANSON FOOTBALLERS’ VISIT Weather conditions were, ideal for a friendly match which was played against a team from Sanson at Turakina on Sunday. Turakina emerged the winners by 28 points to 3, the winners’ points coming from tries by D. Hood (3), J. Hartley (2) K. Standford, L. Karatau and W. Le Quesne. J. Hartley converted two tries. Sanson's points came from a try by J. Serancke. After the match players of both teams were entertained at afternoon tea by the lady supporters.
