“PAY-AS-YOU-EARN” INCOME TAX SYSTEM FAVOURED BY P.M.
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).— The Prime Minister . (Mr. Holland) I:,aid tonight “the pay as you earn” system ol incomc-iax payment had not been considered, but lie personally I had a strong leaning in favour of its j introduction. There were, however, | many aspects of the problem to be i considered in relation to the present taxation system. | During his last visit to Australia he I made exhaustive inquiries from many I clauses of taxpayers, and found complete unanimity on the merits of the ipay system. Everyone to whom he spoke was in favour of tlie scheme. I “I hope that during our first three ’ years of office the subject will be investigated with a view to finding a method completely acceptable to tax- | payers and of introducing this system,” said Mr. Holland.
