Farewell Gathering For Retiring Headmaster Of Keith Street School
Headmaster of the Keith Street for the past eight years, Mr. W. P. Williams, who retires at the end of the year, was farewelled at a recent gathering arranged by the Keith Street School Committee and the Home and School Association. Mr. Williams, who was presented with an engraved chiming clock, has been teaching for 45 years and his record is unique in that he has spent th? whole of his career in the Wangen Education Boards district. An opportunity was also taken to farewell Miss M. McCurdy, infant mistress at Keith Street SchoM for the past two years. She retires this year and was presented with a roa.i.: lamp. The presentations were made by Mr. H. McPhee, chairman of the Keith Street School Committee, who paid warm tributes to Mr. Williams’ work for the school. Mr. McPhee clso expressed appreciation of Miss McCurdy’.'' services. Other speaker? included three members of the Wanganui Education Board. Messrs W. G.' Price. F. C. Jannings and E. R. Hodge. Mr. H. Dixon spoke on behalf of the teachers. There was a large attendance of parents and friends of the school, the first portion of the evening being taken up with a concert programme. >
