LACK OF CO-OPERATION FOR EVENING CLASSES, SAYS PRINCIPAL

“Classes for apprentices have continued to be held in the evenings,” said Mr. J. Dash, principal of the Wanganui Technical College, in his annual report, presented at the annual prizegiving ceremony last night. “The school has the facilities for the daylight training of plumbing and electrical wiring apprentices and partially so for those engaged in the motor industry. But so far qualified instructors have not been forthcoming,” said Mr. Dash.

“It is very apparent that many employers are opposed to the scheme. It is also clearly apparent that some employers fail to co-operate with the school and its instructors in the case of evening classes, and they may now be about to pay the penalty for their lack of interest. It is the responsibil ity of the school to provide facilities necessary for apprentice training. It is expected of the authorities, whose duty it is to enforce the requirements of the various apprenticeship orders, that they will take their responsibilities seriously and make certain that apprentices meet their obligations.”
