“TWO DOWN; ONE TO GO” SAYS “DAILY MIRROR” IN ELECTION ARTICLE

NEW YORK, Dec. 11 (Recd. Bpm) The “Daily Mirror” in a leading article headed “Two Down, One to Go,” said: "For the good of Britain its chief underwriter the United States we hope the ‘down-under’ elections are an augury of what will happen to British Socialism when Attlee and Cripps take to the polls in the coming year. We are not predicting, just hoping.” The article said jt has been the habit of the wishful promoters of Socialism to point,,to New Zealand and Australia and exclaim: "But look how it is working .there.’ Progress, however, seemed to have made a greater impression on the outer world than on the people of those “two paradises of the South Pacific.” the article said. The seeming "ingratitude’’ of the Australians in turning upon the Labour Government when they were enjoying relatively high prosperity, with jobs for everyone, was explained by’ the high‘price of Socialist prosperity. American Republicans and Southern Democrats perhaps could take a tip from Liberalite countries who won the people on a “return to the freedoms and free enterprise that made Australia great” They also had a non-pussy-footing standard-bearer in Mr Menzies. “He cut like a good clean wind.”
