“DANCING DAYS”

Brilliant Performances By Talented Pupils

There was a joy of dancing for dancing s sake in the performances of the pupils of the Trevor Hunter Dancing School in their annual recital entitled “Dancing Days” in the Opera House last night in aid of the Plunket Society. This pleasure transmitted itself to the large and enthusiastic audience and made the performance so much more enjoyable. “Dancing Days” comprised an interesting and artistic programme with a varied and original array of dances and ballets. There were 85 taking part and a very high standard of performance was given by all. Of the number of performers five have passed the R.A.D. major examinations and the greater part of the remainder have passed high grade examinations. The loveiy costuming was colourful and charming and with the brilliant display of dancing and grouping aroused enthusiastic comment. Ln the first part of the programme were varied numbers following a Rondalay by all pupils of the school. A pretty little story was the ! “Snow Queen” in which a large num* ! ber took part. Good ballet work was in “Flirtation” (Now and Then). This was followed by “The Days of The Week” in which each represented a day in the week. Tap dancing was featured in “Scene Militaire.” Other main items were "Variations From Swan Lake,” from the traditional dance; “The Lilac Tree” based on the song and in which the “Can-Can” was danced; and finally "Sur Les Pointes,” a toe ballet in which 21 children took part. Between the larger ballets were varied solos, tap ballets and dances by senior and junior pupils. The pianists were Mrs. Holdaway, Mrs. Mclntyre, Mrs. Dudley and Miss Humphries. At the conclusion of the programme Miss Trevor Hunter expressed her thanks to all who had helped her and to the pianists. Mrs. H. D. Robertson thanked Miss Hunter for the excellent presentation of “Dancing Days” for the Plunket Society. Following the National Anthem gifts and flowers were presented on the stage to all who had taken part in the programme.
