British Heiress Can Anticipate Income From Trusts

LONDON, Nov 8 (Recd 6 pm).— The House of Commons, decided by 180 votes’to 47, that British heiresses will no longer be barred from anticipating their income if it is derived from trust funds. Lady Mountbatten is one of the beneficiaries affected. She inherited £1,400,000 from her grandfather, Sir Ernest Cassel, but though her income had fallen from £BO,OOO to £4500, she was unable to use the capital or borrow on future income. The Attorney-General, Sir Hartley Shawcross, said the Bill would apply to thousands of women, not only to wealthy heiresses. He did not think the happiness of married women should he controlled by a “dead hand stretching out from the grave."
