WOMEN’S DIVISION EXHIBIT AT THE WANGANUI SHOW

This week is show week with its attendant interests and gaieties. We shall all flock to the grandstand and oval to watch the jumping, admire the prize stock and watch the procession. But before doing this, the womenfolk, and not a few men make a point of visiting the Home Industries exhibits. Much interest too, will be taken in the needlework section which is larger than last year. One of the main attractions at the show will be a display organised by the Wanganui provincial of the Women’s Div sion of Federated Farmers. In a number of bays will be shown exhibits from practically all the branches in the provincial district and will include needlework of every description, tapestry, rugs, beautiful paintings, hobbies and woodwork. The W.D.F.F. exhibition will occupy two large marquees behind the main stand. The bays will illustrate phases of the organisation’s activities, including Aid For Britain, Royal Institute of Horticulture, Town and Country nursery, as well as hobbies and handcrafts. The display under the title of The Farm Can Grow it, and the Wife Make it” which will show everything from spring lamb to strawberries, should prove of keen interest to many people visiting the show. Another item of interest will be the three gowns loaned by the N.Z. Wool Board. These created much admiration at an exhibition held in Wellington during W.D.F.F. conference in July, that enthusiastic delegates from the Wanganui provincial asked for a loan of the gowns for the display at the show and this request was kindly granted. Those who will have the pleasure of viewing the frocks will be amazed to know that the materials are of wool and will be especially interested in the bridal gown of “witchcraft” wool lace and the bridesmaid’s frock of powder
