Many Pressmen To Visit Empire Games

AUCKLAND, Yesterday (P.A.)— One of the biggest concentrations of newspapermen ever in one centre in New Zealand will cover the British Empire Games at Auckland in February. A large city hotel has been booked for the sole use of visiting reporters, commentators, and photographers, but it will not accommodate an expected total of over 40 newspapermen from overseas and New Zealand, plus nine visiting radio commentators. Thirteen journalists are expected from Australia, three from Englandand one from Canada. Three of these are photographers. In addition, the Press Association has requested accommodation for seven representatives, including Mr. Vernon Morgan, sports editor of Reuter’s, London. Some United Press Association representatives are also expected. Twenty-four representatives, including six photographers, are coming from New Zealand papers outside Auckland. Thp British Broadcasting Corporation is sending two men and the Australian Broadcasting Commission two, and there will be five New Zealand Broadcasting Service representatives from outside Auckland. The post office is providing a special staff to handle reporters’ dispatches and for wiring photographs overseas and to other parts of New Zealand. There will be four teleprinters at Eden Park, and four at the Olympic Pool and four at Lake Karapiro for the rowing.
