EXTRA POWER FOR AUCKLAND; EMPIRE GAMES PERIOD
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).—A brighter city during Christmas and New Year and the Empire Games period is allowed for in the schedule of relaxations of power restrictions announced by the deputy-chairman ot the Auckland Electric Power Board, Mr J. A. Steele. He also stated the policy for general rationing next year, which is modified in a tew respects. The power to make the relaxations possible will come from a surplus ot units built up by ihe board under its highly successful rationing scheme this year. These can now be carried forward into the eaily months of next year as the new rationing does not begin until April . Under the new arrangement consumers who had made substantial savings this year will not be penalised by having their allocations reduced. Neon signs, decorative lighting and shop window lighting wiTi be allowed during Christmas and New Year and during the Empire Games.
