Guided Missiles To Intercept Atom Bombers
LONDON, Nov. 4.—Guided missiles which could be used for intercepting atom bombers are in an advanced stage of development, according to the latest R.A.F. quarterly journal published under the direction of an Air Ministry committee. A rocket-propelled missile would climb much faster than any piloted fighter, and when It reached a point where its radar eye picked up an enemy it would free itself from ground control and an electronic brain would start working. By actuating a “set of muscles comprising nervomechanisms the missile would intercept the bomber, exploding itself and destroying the bomber at the point of interception. The journal said: “This missile is not an imaginary device: it is near the final stage of development.”
