Attlee Rejects Move To Cut Royal Family’s Annuities

LONDON, Nov. 3—The Prime Minister, Mr. Attlee, rejected a suggestion by the Left Wing Labour member- Mr. Emrys Hughes, in the House of Commons today, that the annuities paid to the British Royal Family should be cut. Mr. Hughes urged this in view of the urgent need for economy. He wanted a “hawk-like eye” kept on all extravagance,” he said. The annuities are granted to the Xing and other members of the Royal Family by Parliament for their State expenses. They include £llO,OOO for the King and £40,000 for Princess Elizabeth.
