Workers Council In Firm Objects To Both Fascists & Communists
LONDON, May 31 (Reed. 6 pm).— The Central Council of the John Lewis Partnership, representing nearly 12,000 workers, decided to recommend that Communists and Fascists and “totalitarians of any kind” be banned from employment with the firm The Minister of Labour, Mr. George Isaacs, last month advised the counci.' to drop the resolution excluding Communists from employment wit:, the Lewis group. The latest resolution extending ti: ban to Fascists, was carried by 60 votes to 40. Speakers against tne motion emphasised that the ban would mean a backstairs investigation into employees’ private lives. Workers in th e Lewis Partnership are partners getting profits indirectly through amenities and directly through interest-bearing shares.
