U.S. Unable To Establish Relations With Communists In Manchuria
NEW YORK, May 30 (Rec. 8.30 p.m.)—The United States State Department has ordered the American Consulate-General in Mukden to close down after fruitless efforts to establish a de facto working relationship with Chinese Communists in Manchuria.
The Consul-General, Mr. Angus Ward, and his staff of eight, has been completely isolated in Mukden since the Communists seized the Consulate radio in November, 1948. Their recall is a recognition of the Consulate’s inability to function in the area wherein the Soviet has carved out a special sphere of influence, says the New York “Times." ,
