She Is Likely To Stay Where She Is • LONDON, May 2 (Recd. 8 pm).— A message from Singapore says a high naval authority told the Press today that the Navy would not move the Amethyst from its present position in the Yangtze until arrangements could be made with both Communists and Nationalists to assure a peaceful passage. The Navy has not yet been able to contact any central Chinese Communist authority in connection with the matter. The authority disclosed that Chinese messengers had boarded the Amethyst and advised the commander she would be safer to stay where she was as there is still considerable warlike activity both upstream and downstream from the ship. The authority was of opinion that the firing on the Amethyst was not deliberate, but a local mistake caused by excited Communist gunners and bad fire discipline
