Winter Sports
Today is the opening of the 1949 season of the Wanganui Soccer, Basketball, and Men’s and Women's Hockey Associations. Senior A, senior E, and junior soccer matches will be played on Victoria Park. Basketball competition games will commence at the Queen's Park and Technical College courts. Fifty-one affiliated teams have been entered in the four grades. Tlte men's hockey season will open with a six-a-side tournament at the Gonville Domain. Twelve women’s hockey teams have entered for the Il-a-side tournament on the Gonville Domain. The winning team will receive the Gifford-Moore Cup.
