German Journalists Don’t Know Who Lives At 10 Downing Street
LONDON, April 27. According to the organisers of an examination for prospective journalists in Munich, the standard of education among young Germans is deplorably low. Only about 90 out of 1700 candi- ! dates s-urvived the examination set by I the Munich evening newspaper to fill I twenty vacancies in its fre e school of I journalism. ■ Even the successful ninety, however, I found difficulty in identifying famous personages from their photographs. A number could not distinguish Franklin Roosevelt from Richard Wagner, Haile Selassie from Marshal Tito, or Stafford Cripps from Richard Strauss. One candidate thought Field-Marshal Montgomery was Dean Acheson. One of the questions was: "Who lives at Number 10 Downing Street?” Very few knew. —Special Correspondent.
