WARTIME EXCAVATIONS IN BRITAIN REVEALED PREHISTORIC SECRETS
LONDON, April 27.—Prehistoric and Roman building secrets disclosed by wartime excavations for airfields, camps and ordnance factories are recorded in a Ministry of Works booklet, “War and Archaeology in Britain.” Most important discovery of the whole series of excavations was made at Heathrow, Middlesex, where the London airport now stands. Evidence was found of the former existence of a small rectangular building sur- ( rounded by a colonnade. The plan - obviously resembled that of classicali Greek temple and that used for masonry Roman-Celtic temples dating from the first few centuries. All pottery” found on the site dated from the early phase of the Iron Age.
