Russian General’s Evidence In Kravchenko Case
PARIS, Feb. 15.—The Russian General Rudenko was the chief witness at today’s hearing of the Kravchenko libel action against the Communist newspaper “Les Lettres Francaises.” He said Kravchenko was “a common criminal, a war criminal as well, and a traitor to his country.” General Rudenko, who was formerly head of the Russian purchasing commission in Washington, said that when Kravchenko was on his staff he had turned up drunk for work. He said the Russian people were “thirsty for peace,” and went on: “As a military man I know better than anybody else that the Soviet Budget is devoted before all else to the peaceful development of the country.” He said he did not know Kravchenko personally in Washington, because Kravchenko held only a minor post in a Russian syndicate.
