Excellent Sale Of Lambs And Cattle Reported At Waverley

The Waverley sale was one of the best conducted in these yards for some considerable time and the attendance was a record one, Freeman R. Jackson and Co report, rhere was keen competition for all classes of stock and a total clearance was effected under the hammer. Some excellent pens of back-coun-try lambs were yarded and sold at rates above recent sales. Mr Arch Sutherland’s shorn wether lambs made 29s 4d, with several other vendors’ lines just a few pence lower. Ewe lambs in particular were in keen demand, many lots making better than 30s and up to 34s lid. The yarding of cattle was excellent for this time of the year and enjoyed the same free sale as the yarding of sheep. Cows anil calves offered on behalf of the W. H. Wybourne Estate made £l3 4s and 2year heifers £ll- Cows and heifers, on behalf of Mr. K C. Humphreys, made £l2 and two-year heifers £lO ss. Mr Keith Bilton’s heifers made £lO 4s and crossbred heifers £9 and £9 2s. Prices were as follow: Sheep.—Woolly wether lambs, 28s, 325; good shorn", 275, 29s 4d; fair to medium, 245, 26s 9d; small, 16s, 22s 6d; good ewe lambs, 30s 7d, 345; good medium, 275, 29s 9d; small, 21s 6d, 21s 9d; woolly b.r. lambs, 28s, 30s 7d; medium to small, 23s 6d, 27s 9d; culls, 18s, 22s 6cl; shorn b.f. lambs, 24s 9d, 26s 8d; m.a. breeding ewes, 355. Cattle.—Empty P.A. cows with calves at foot, to £l3 4s; fat and forward P.A. cows and heifers, £ll to £l2: P.A. 2-year heifers, £lO ss, £11; crossbred do., £9, 9 15s; 3-’year P.A. steers, £l3.
