Charge Of Driving Without Due Care And Attention
aiiu Mueiiuun A collision between two cars in Portal Street on the evening of November 6 had a sequel in the Magistrate’s Court, Wanganui, yesterday, when the driver of one of them, John Gordon Caird, admitted a charge of driving without due care and attention. He was fined £3, with costs and expenses amounting to £2, by Mr. J. H. Salmon S.M. Sergeant A- Carlyon, who prosecuted, said that at 8 p.m. on the day in question a car travelling on its correct side of the road was proceeding down Portal Street in the direction of the city. When approaching the Durie Vale turn-off the driver saw anothef car, driven by defendant, trave ling in the opposite direction. When about 30yds. away defendant’s car veered out to the right and struck the other a glancing blow. Marks on the road showed that defendant was two and a-half feet over the centre line. There were no serious consequnces as a result of the accident.
