ANIMATED MARKET AT NAPIER WOOL SALE; VALUES TEND TO FIRM

NAPIER, Last Night (PA).—The market at the second day of the Napier wool sale showed a firming tendency on the first day. The demand from a full bench of buyers was very keen, resulting in an almost total clearance at 6d or 7d above floor prices. The Joint Organisation buyer was not heard throughout the day.

The Continent continued to dominate the market, particularly for fine wools, but Bradford buyers helped to keep the pace “hot.” New Zealand mills paid high prices for superfine lines and the best sale of the day was a lot of halfbred hogget wool from Otane which made 552 d. This was only lid below the Hawke’s record price ol 57d paid for a line of Corriedale hogget wool from Wanstead at the March sale last season.

However, the payout for the sale is expected to be an easy record for Napier. Fine necks and pieces sold particularly well.

The official report stated: “The sec- j ond.day of the first Napier wool sale of the season was held today. There was a full bench of buyers. Competition was keen and continued animated. Values were firm on the basis established on Friday The Continent still dominated the market, particularly for fine wools. Strong crossbreds were still keenly sought after by American and Canadian interests. New Zealand mills were again active and paid high prices for fine wools. Fine necks and pieces sold particularly well. There was practically a total clearance of wool, Joint Organisation not being heard throughout the day.”
