"CEASE FIRE" MAY BE NEAR IN PALESTINE
LONDON. Nov. 29 (Rec. 8.30 nm). —lsrael’s application for U.N.O. membership is being officially submitted today—the first anniversary of the U.N.O. General Assembly’s decision at Lake Success to partition Palestine into two separate States.
Reuter’s Paris correspondent said it was learned that the application was being made in a letter to the U.N.O. Secretary-General, Mr. Trygve Lie, with a request that it be passed on to the Security Council for consideration.
A U.N.O. spokesman stated in Haifa that direct Jqivish-Arab negotiations to ensure a complete and effective ‘cease fire” have begun in Jerusalem.
“Excellent progress was made and it is expected a cease-fire agreement for the entire Jerusalem area will soon be reached,” he said. (N. Z. P. A. —Reuter—Copyright)
TEL AVIV. Nov 29 (Rec. 11.15 pm).—An Israeli military spokesman stated that Israel had agreed on every point of the U.N.O. truce observers’ proposals regarding the Negev The Israeli Government would allow the Egyptians to send non-military convoys through to Egyptian troops cut off at Faluja. Israel would not allow these isolated troops to be evacuated “because Egypt would thereby obtain an advantage to build up her frontline strength.”
