Fitzroy Team Has Broken Away From Marching Union
NEW PLYMOUTH (Last Night (Special).—Behind the visit of the Fitzroy Surf Club girls’ marching team to Levin to compete in the Horowhenua open championship on Saturday lies the first break in ranks of the New Zealand Marching Union membership in Taranaki.
The Fitzroy team on its own initiative has resigned and has become affiliated to the New Zealand Marching Association. It is the only team in Taranaki to have linked itself with the association which has its headquarters at Wellington, whereas the union’s head office is at Wanganui. Reasons for the failure of the recent negotiations for the. amalgamation of the two organisations are to be discussed jv the association president (Lieut.-Colonel G. O’Leary) and the Secretary (Mr. K. W. Kilpatrick) at a series of public meetings to be held in Taranaki towns early in December.
