Hunterville.—On Thursday, November 11 the Hunterville branch o£ the W.D.F.F. held the monthly meeting. There was a poor attendance of members. Mrs. McAlley presided. Apologies were received front Mesdames Harre, L. Hammond, and O. Stewart. Mrs. lan Cameron was proposed as a new member. Business of the afternoon was chiefly concerned with the arrangements for the W.D. dance to be held in the Scots’ Hall on New Year's Eve. A committee of six ’>as formed from those present and it was proposed that a letter be written to the Y.F.C. asking for their support and assistance. The sleeping doll to be raffled was shown to members and Miss McDonald, on behalf of the branch, thanked Miss Meads for dressing the doll. It was decided to make 2s 6d per person admission to the dance. There was discussion re a donation to provincial funds, and it was proposed and carried that £5 be sent. The guest speaker for the afternoon was Mr. Thompson, who gave a very interesting talk on Whyalla, a centre of the Australian steel industry. Mr. Thompson spoke of the origin of the town, its growth, and gave a detailed picture of homes and conditions as compared with Hunterville conditions generally. It was a most instructive talk, and the meeting showed interest and appreciation. A vote of thanks to Mr. Thompson was passed. Mrs. Lambert afterwards spoke briefl* about the recent Plunket conference —in particular about the possibility of a housekeeping scheme on the same lines as that Dr. Helen Deem had seen in operation in Sweden. Mrs. Lambert said that all the women at the conference were greatly concerned about the domestic help problem and since the W.D. housekeeping scheme was in abeyance, there was an urgent need for some other scheme for the training of Somen and girls in this work. Mrs. McAlley thanked Mrs. Lambert for her report on a matter of particular interest to all country women. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Morrison (2), Misses Pitcher and Morrison.
