Savage Club Tribute
Members of the High Council of the Wanganui Savage Club, led by the Rangatira (Savage A. J. W. Hodder), and including a representative of the orchestra, called on Mrs W J Upton and presented her with her late nusbands 20-year membership bar. The late Mr. Upton was a hard working and keen member of the club's orchestra for many years, and his ability as a player of the double bass was highly valued, not only by the Savage Club but by other musical bodies in the city. Mr. Upton was too ill to receive his 20-year bar at presentation time and his death occurred shortly afterwards. The council of the club thought it would be an appropriate gesture to present the bar to Mrs. Upton and that was done in tribute to a man who had given a great deal of service to Savagery.
