Lawn Tennis Control; Committee Decisions Reached

The affiliation of the Victoria Lawn Tennis Club was approved at a meeting of the management committee of the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association held on Thursday night.

The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association advised approval of the StJohn's Tennis Club’s tournament on April 15, 16 and 18.

The committee received notification of the next meeting of the Wanganui Council of Amateur Sport, and it was stated tnat this meeting would be asked it the sports bodies of the city would undertake to provide similar manpower as in former years for the conduct of the February Carnival, but without a pro rata share of the profits going to the sports bodies, as before. The president, Mr. D. W. Earle, said that the funds so raised would go to the tourist and development committee of the City Council, for the furtherance of the committee’s aims. Mr. Earle urged that this course could well be followed for the betterment of the city and the carnival. It meant that the clubs might be asked to man a stall, each of the five clubs taking that stall for a night. The meeting indicated that the clubs would most probably agree with the proposal, in view of its aims, and Mr. Earle, the association’s representative, was left with a free hand to vote as he saw fit.

The Aramoho Boating Club sought a donation toward the fund to send its New Zealand champion eight and New Zealand champion sculler to Australia, as New Zealand’s representatives. The president commented that, the association was placed in the position of wanting to assist a kindred sport when it did not have the money to do so. It was decided to write to the club, congratulating it on the honour which had been conferred on it, and making a donation of £3 3s ‘as an expression of goodwill to a kindred sport.”
