Messrs. W. Stoddart and S. L. Orr were inducted to membership of the Wanganui Rotary Club this week. Mr. A. G. Smart has been appointed accountant o± the Hawera branch of the Bank of Australasia in succession to Mr. G. G. Porter, who recently was promoted to a managerial position in the North Auckland district. Mr. Smart has been with the Hawera branch for the past 12 years. Mr. D. W. Coleman, Government member for Gisborne, celebrated his 67th birthday yesterday, spending most of it inside the House of Representatives. Mr. Coleman will retire next year, and this session of Parliament is understood to be his last. He is a former Mayor of Gisborne.— (0.C.).
The Rev A. B. Catley. MSc, BA, of St. John’s College, Remuera, will be the special preacher for the Patronal Festival to be held at All Saints’ Church, Wanganui East, during the coming week-end. After a brilliant scholastic career in Australia, where he was chosen as the Lucas Tooth Scholar. Mr. Catley furthered his studies at Cambridge University and then at Berkley University in California. During his stay in Wanganui, Mr. Catley will be the guest of the Rev and Mrs F. A. Keay, Wanganui East.
