Acclimatisation Affairs Discussed At Meeting In Bulls

(0.C.) Bulls. June 28. Taking the shooting as a whole, it had been below standard in most of tlie Wellington district, said the chairman (Mr. Ralfe) at a recent meeting in Bulls of the Marton-Bulls sub-com-mittee of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society. There was a very good attendance of members. Mr. Robertson, secretary of the Palmerston North subcommittee, delegate to the council from his branch, and an associate member of the game committee, also being present, bv invitation, with two of his committee members. A report of tlie last two meetings of the Wellington Council was given by the local delegate (Mr. Ralfe). Points of interest were an increase of £4OO to the staff benefit fund, and a bonus and increase in salary to the secretary. Mr. E- C. Wiffen.

A considerable migration of ducks, due it was believed, to the drv season, had taken place. Evidence of this was that ducks “ringed” in the Manawalu had been shot as far south as Oamaru, and as far north as the Hauraki Gulf. A letter from the R.N.Z.A.F. Ohakea, regarding a low flying course south of the Rangitikei river, and the possible effect on the duck population, was received by the council. This consideration on the part of the Air Force was much appreciated. Rangers are to report on the matter.

A new method of aerating the water during the transport of fry was proving successful, and would enable larger numbers to be safely carriedMr. Robertson, on behalf of the Palmerston North branch, invited the local members, and particularly all tlie honorary rangers in tlie district to attend a meeting of instruction to rangers to be held this Wednesday (June 30) in Palmerston North. Mr. Wilson, the Council's Ranger, will give an address. It was recognised that the appointment of honorary rangers had been a great success, and very few unlicensed shooters had been heard of. Licence holders are invited to a meeting of the society in Marton on July 17. similar to the one held two years ago.
