N.Z. Patent Office Declared To Be Behind The Times

(P.A.) Wellington, June 28. There had been concern for some considerable time in the commercial world that the Patent Office had failed for many years to move with the times, said Mr. W. J. Sim, K.C., on behalf of the Radio Manufacturers’ Federation, before the Patents Commission today. Mr. Sim said there was also concern that the Patents Office had failed to grasp the fact that the present was an industrial age, and that prompt and effective treatment ot applications for patents was essential to the commercial community. No weight, he said, was given to considerations that an obsolete Patent Office such ns New Zealand’s could be an obstacle to the industrial progress of the community.
