MARTON WATER SUPPLY
Sir, —I write to thank Mr. Stuart for his interesting letter, written in reply to mine re the Marton water supply. It conveyed a lot of information that was unknown to me and to many others. I like the attitude adopted by Mr. Stuart; he does not claim to be an authority on the scheme he advocated. In your issue of the 23rd ulto, your report of this scheme suggested by Mr. Mair, our late county engineer, shows further light on the scheme which he suggested should be investigated as far back as ten years ago; he realised at that time how inadequate was the Marton water supply. The Marton borough has been greatly in need of a good overhaul for some years, so it is hard to understand the reason why the Borough Council failed to do anything whep subsidised labour was available to use, Mr. Stuart remarks, the materia! of all kinds to be had at a. very low price. A considerable amount of work will now have to be carried out at a colossal cost to the ratepayers.— I am, etc., “INTERESTED."
