PUBLIC OPINION

FULL WAGES AS PENSIONS

Mr. J. Sullivan in his address io the Employer, Association has much to say in criticisism of the Government and its S.S. comitments. I am not much interested in his figures relative to Government employees in this department, or any other department of the Government. It is surprising to ne that such a gentle man in his position should condemn a good omen, in that I mean no unemployed and a goodly amount of money in circulation. If this was not so, then, commerce would be the first to feel the effects of the money shortage. Furthermore, Mr. Sullivan according to reports complains somewhat of the money paid out to pensioners, here again is this not money in circulation so bettering the position of all business men? I would like to remind one and all what pittance is paid out to pensioners today is not equivalent in rising costs commerce has forced upon the people. I, on behalf of we people, recommend to all phases of commerce to advocate in recommending to the Government that we as pensioners be paid out the known Basic Standard of today known in this country, viz: £5 16s Od for man and wife, and £3 10s 0d for single pensioners. If Mr. Sullivan and his cotaries of business men wants to keep prosperous now is your chance —I am, etc., T. H. MEGANN Hon. President and Organiser, S.S. Pensioners Association, Box 830 G.P.O. Auckland.
