Commercial Manager Of N.Z. Railways

(P.A.) • Wellington, May 26. The Minister of Railways, Mr. Sempl.e, announced the appointment of Mr. K. A. Wallace to the position of commercial manager of New Zealand Railways, succeeding Mr. H. A. Steere, who retired recently on superannuation after 40 year’s service. Mr. Wallace joined the Railways Department as a cadet at Auckland in 1915. After serving progressively at various stations in the northern district he was appointed to the district traffic manager’s office, Auckland, in 1937. He entered the commercial branch as Auckland commercial agent and held that position until his transfer in 1944 to head office, Wellington, as assistant commercial manager. Mr. Wallace represented the Railways Department on the committee appointed in 1947 by the Minister of Transport to investigate rail-sea coastal competition and had also taken a prominent part in various other conferences and discussions connected with business and Railways interests. Mr. W. E. Hodges, commercial agent, Wellington, succeeds Mr. Wali lace as assistant comercial manager.
