40,000 BALES OF WOOL TO BE OFFERED; WANGANUI TWO-DAY SALE

A catalogue of 40,000 bales of this season’s greasy wool will be offered at the Wanganui wool sale to be held in the Opera House on Monday and Thursday of next week. This will be the first time a wool sale has been held in Wanganui over a period of two days, but the experiment has already been tried in Auckland and Napier with success. Approximately 20,000 bales will be offered on Monday, after which there will be two days for the buyers to value the remainder of the catalogue. Buyers are expected to arrive in Wanganui on Friday to start the job of valuing the first part of the catalogue. When enquiries were made yesterday by a reporter, little information about the forthcoming sale was available. However, the buoyant tone since the last Wanganui sale when values were pleasing to farmers gives the impression that good prices will again be realised. The wool to be offered next week is reported to be in good condition and to have been better handled than usual. This was the case at the last Wanganui sale and was reported to have borne a good reward. Shearing in the Wanganui and surrounding districts has now been completed and wool has been coming into the stores in great quantities since the end of the holidays. The third sale of the season will be held in Wanganui on March 19. The catalogue at this sale will be the usual offering of 25,000 bales. The final sale of the season will be held on May 21.
