TRAPPED COMMUNISTS IN OUTER MUKDEN BEING ANNIHILATED
(N.Z.P.A.—Reuter—Copyright.) Recd. 7.30 p.m. Nanking, Dec. 26. A Communist column of 2000 men which penetrated the outer defences of Mukden has been trapped and Is being annihilated, according to Government dispatches. Other Government forces around Hie city are launching a large-scale counter-offensive and have defeated a large Communist force north-west of Mukden. The battle for Changwu, 45 miles north-west of Mukden, which has been raging for four days, is expected to result in a Communist victory. The Government troops are reported to be fighting against overwhelming odds.
