REASONS FOR THE BIG YM C A -Y-WC A. APPEAL TO RAISE £15,000

In a recent statement summarising the aims of the £15,000 Building Fund Appeal, the president of the Wanganui Y.M.C.A. (Mr. Eric L. Jones) called attention to the wide variety of work done by the association

He stressed paricularly that the physical training, which was available to all young people, was only a small part of the vast orogramme of youthtraining carried out by the Y.M.C.A. throughout the world. Study groups, clubs, mutual-training classes, and prayer groups occupied the largest part of the Y.M. curriculum, and to accommodate these activities the association required several meeting rooms in addition to the- gymnasium and games room, which cater for the physical and sporting groups. REPAIRS AND RENOVATIONS. The sum of £15,000 when raised will be used partly to repair and renovate a building which has seen 35 years ot service to youth and the community generally, and which has reached the stage in its iife when extensive repair is an urgent necessity. The bulk of the appeal target, however, will be retained until the present housing shortage has eased, and will finance the construction of a gynasiuni of adequate size, and properly equipped to give our future citizens as good physical training as can be obtained anywhere. To assist our young people in the battle of life, and in their part in the readjustment of a world from war to peace, we must help them io provide the best possible facilities for charac-ter-building along the lines of the Y.M.C.A. programme. These aims cannot be achieved without expansion and improvement of the present building and equipment. It is to accomplish these improvements that the Y.M.C.A. and Y.W.C.A. are now asking the public to help in raising a large sum of money, and in return the associations will provide the City of Wanganui with a civic asset —a youth centre of which any city could well be proud.
