SOVIET COUNTRIES ARE SEEKING UNITED NATIONS’ AID

Recd. 6 p.m. New York, Sept. 30 Six Soviet bloc countries which are boycotting the Marshal Plan have advised the United Nations that they will need 1,234,300,000 dollars in outside financial aid in 1947. The requirements are: Czechoslovakia, 168,600,000 dollars; Poland, 477,000,000; Yugoslavia, 376,300,000; Albania, 32,000,000; Finland, 74,400,000; Hungary, 106,000,000. The Secretary-General of the United Nations (Mr. Trygve Lie), in submitting a report, to the Economic and Social Council, said some of the funds to meet these requirements would be provided by such agencies as the International Children’s Fund, the World Bank and by private loans, but the six countries would be faced with a deficit of nearly 1,000,000,000 dollars. The deficit is calculated on requirements for food, clothing, machinery and other capital goods. The report, which was prepared by the United Nations Economic Division estimates the total net deficit of the war ravaged European countries in 1947 at 1,786,300,000 dollars.
