WANGANUI TOWN AND COUNTRY RESIDENTIAL NURSERY ASSOCIATION
The Wanganui Town and Country Residential Nursery Association held the first meeting for the year in the Victoria League Rooms last Friday. The president (Mrs. A. H. Mac Lean), presided over a good attendance of members and welcomed them back after the Christmas recess. She expressed the hope and belief that by the end of 1947 the nursery would be in existence. The financial statement was read and discussed and it was decided to explore the possibility of leasing or •buying a suitable house in the near future. Ways and means of raising more funds were also discussed and a bridge afternoon will be held in April and a shop day in connection with a street appeal in June. Members were requested to discuss the matter at the next meeting of their own organisation and bring suggestions to the next meeting. Various members stressed the urgent need to push forward the scheme as quickly as possible as the shortage of household help was more acute than ever before and assistance for young mothers very much needed. Mention was made that the Northland Residential Nursery Society, whose aims and objects were identical with the Wanganui Association, had already bought a house in Whangarei and hoped soon to be in a position to alter and furnish it.
