TRUCK DRIVER FINED

CROSSED INTERSECTION ON WRONG SIDE

Stated by Inspector Tipper, appearing for the Wanganui City Council to ha”<? crossed two intersections in Dublin Street on his wrong side of the road, John Vennell Tasker, truck driver, was fined £5. costs 10s, by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. in the Magistrate’s Court, Wanganui, yesterday. Defendant was charged with driving a heavy vehicle in Dublin Street without reasonable consideration for other users of the road.

Inspector Tipper said there was a fair amount of traffic about at the time. .The truck, which was in the six-ton class, was empty at the time. When he crossed intersections defendant was only about four feet out from the kerbing on the right-hand side of the road.

George William Jones, charged with driving a motor-cycle in Victoria Avenue without reasonable consideration to others, was lined £2, costs 10s. Inspector Tipper said that defendant passed two motor-cars on the wrong side, and also drove past a stationary tramcar. When subsequently overtaken defendant said he thought the door of the tram was closed, but he had no excuse to offer for passing the motor-cars on the wrong side. John Raymond Calver, charged with not having a driver’s licence, was lined £l, costs 12s. Percy Ward Locker was convicted and ordered to pay costs only, 10s, for not carrying a warrant of fitness with him.
