RESIDENTIAL TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

J. COOK AND MISS GREAVES WIN SINGLES TITLES Following the reverse the tournament received at the hands of the weather the previous week-end, the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association practically completed their Wanganui Residential Championships on Saturday and yesterday. All that remains of the tournament to be played are the Combined Doubles semi finals and finals, and these matches will be played at the convenience of the participating players. The final of the men's singles resulted in a win for J A. Cook, over E. Ogier, 6-3, 6-3. The expected ladies singles player to carry off the honours. Miss T. Greaves, did not let her record this season lapse, winning the final from Mrs. Ogier, 6-4, 6-0. The unexpected happened in the final of the men’s doubles, when the favourite pair, Cook and Ogier went down to Connett and Rountree in two straight sets. The tennis played in this match was excellent, the winning combination syncronising exceptionally well to win 6-4, 6-2. Miss Greaves and Mrs. Ogier had little difficulty in disposing of Mrs. D. W. Earle and Miss J. Cross in the final of the ladies’ championship doubles, the games going their way to the score of 6-1 in both sets.
