LA ROCHE AND PARTNER WIN AGAIN (P.A.) Wellington, Jan. 30. One-time champion of New Zealand, A. G. F. Ross, was defeated in the open singles championship at the national croquet tourney to-day by Mrs. Gilbert, the match going to three games. Perfect weather prevailed. Many matches, consisting of two out of three, have gone to three games, proving the even play of the contestants. Results:— Open Championship. Mrs. Gilbert beat A. G. F. Ross, 2610, 17-26, 26-17; Lieut.-Colonel Beamish beat Mrs Bartlett, 24-16, 26-11, 2617. Women’s Championship Mrs. Tingey beat Mrs. Danby, 26-18, 26-11. Championship Doubles. Mesdames Clark and Penn beat Mesdame s Dick and Middleton, 26-10; C. La Roche (Wanganui) and M.S. Wood beat H. Ford and Mrs. Palmer, 26-14. Handicap Singles. G. fowling bear B. J. Jarden.
