HAWERA CANDIDATES FOR WANGANUI
The final gallops of Hawera horses engaged at Wanganui to-morrow were conducted on the plough yesterday morning, with the going fairly fast. The Cup candidate Loyal Bian pleased over six furlongs in company with Robin’s Reward, while others that Impressed were Molly Martia, Wee Joan, Black Plato and Queen Plato.
Although Robin’s Reward (Potroz) slightly shaded Loyal Bian (Taylor > at the finish of six furlongs in 1.16, the pace was on all the way and Loyai Bian performed his task quite satisfactorily. He looks an improved horse since the holidays. Robin’s Reward is none the worse for his two outings at Trentham.
Another Cup candidate in Silver Pal (Mosely) traversed six furlongs alone in 1.18. If the weather remains fine, Silver Pal is ilkely to be reserved for the second day. No fault can be found with his condition.
Black Plato (Potroz) and General Saleve (Mosely) ran five furlongs in 56, finishing nearly on terms from a bad start. The former bears a bright appearance.
Molly Martia (Callaghan) reeled off two furlongs in 25. She may be relied upon for a forward showing in the Flying Handicap. Her stablemates Wee Joan, Standee and Mangarakau, working separately, required
24sec., 25sec. and 24Jsec. respectively, over the same ground. Wee Joan finished strongly in fourth place on the second day of the Stratford meeting, and she may prove troublesome on the minimum in the Petre Hack Handicap. Graeme’s Joy (Taylor) sprinted three furlongs in 3 4-5. This three-year-old daughter of Broiefort-Golden Rod ran third in her last start at the Stratford meeting, and she is expected to run prominently in the Kai Iwi Maiden to-morrow. Adrigoole (Mills) and Queen Plato (Taylor) traversed an easy six furlongs in 1.20 3-5. Queen Plato has improved since the holidays and appears nicely placed in the Victory Hack Handicap. Peter's Choice (Potroz) completed his work by running three furlongs in 37. He will contest the hurdle event on the second day at Wanganui. His consistency of late in jumping events should soon be rewarded. Drambuie (Cole) displayed speed to record 35 4-ssec. in a similar effort. She has proved a big disappointment with the colours up this season. Craven (Peters) completed six furlongs of pacework by sprinting up the straight. He is- in capital order and with W. J. Broughton in the saddle should prove dangerous in the Tayforth Handicap.
Dymondy is the latest addition to W. E. Pine’s team. Afton Water has also joined the same stable.
