AMERICAN DAVIS CUP PLAYER BEATEN IN AUSTRALIAN SINGLES

Recd. 10.45 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 21 W. Talbert, a member of the American Davis Cup team, was eliminated in the second round of the Australian singles championship at White City to-day. He was beaten by W. Sidwell, member of the Australian Davis Cup squad, 6-1, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. A victim of diabetes, Talbert had received hospital treatment over the week-end for insulin shock, and he played below form to-day. T. Brown (U.S.A.) was extended to beat F. Bennett (N.S.W.) 9-7, 8-6, 4-6, 6-2. Bennett eliminated J. Crawford (N.S.W.) in straight sets in the first round.
